Right ankle to keep Wieters out vs. Yankees

FORT MYERS, Fla.-- Orioles catcher Matt Wieters' right ankle isn't coming along as quickly as the team had hoped, and he won't play in Saturday's home game, with the new target date Monday.

"Nicky [Markakis] had a little [left] shoulder tendinitis, but is a go tomorrow and I still may DH him, but going to wait a couple more days on Matt," manager Buck Showalter said.

"[His ankle is] still a little puffy. I asked [athletic trainer] Richie [Bancells], he said he probably would have played during the regular season, but he said he'd really like to resolve this all the way. Everybody [who's] turned their ankle knows how it gets a little weak the first time you roll it like that."

Wieters suffered the injury rounding the third base bag in Tuesday's game and was removed after that. There has been no plans for an X-ray, but the Orioles catcher will take a few more days of rest given that Sunday's game is in Dunedin.
