Petricka back in the mix for reshuffled bullpen

White Sox right-hander activated from DL

CHICAGO -- There never was any worry on the part of Jake Petricka that the right-forearm strain sidelining him at the end of Spring Training was more than minor discomfort.

"It was a matter of getting rid of that soreness, and time wasn't on our side in spring and now we are here," said Petricka, who was recalled Monday from his injury rehabilitation assignment after two scoreless appearances with Triple-A Charlotte and activated from the disabled list.

"I mean, I definitely wanted to be here, but it was more of a mental change than physical because the structure was fine in the arm. It was a matter of getting it feeling good again," Petricka added. "That was a tough little battle. But it's over and now let's have a good long season."

While Petricka returned, joining Carlos Rodon in further solidifying the White Sox bullpen, Javy Guerra was placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 13 with right-shoulder inflammation. Pitcher Kyle Drabek also was designated for assignment.

Guerra has not pitched since April 12, although he warmed up Saturday in Detroit. He described the soreness in his shoulder as nothing too crazy, probably a little bit of biceps tendinitis, but he has no timetable for return.

"It's early and you don't want it to turn in to anything too serious. We made the right choice, no matter what. Going forward, this is something we should take care of," Guerra said. "I think we'll do the right thing and make sure we get it healthy first."

The White Sox bullpen currently consists of David Robertson, Zach Duke, Zach Putnam, Petricka, Rodon, Matt Albers and Dan Jennings.

"Our bullpen looks real good," said Petricka, who believes he will get stronger as his workload progresses. "It's going to be a fun little stretch here."
