SURPRISE, Ariz. -- It was celebrity Wednesday at Royals camp, as actor/comedian Rob Riggle and NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer were on hand before Kansas City's split-squad games: a 7-5 win over the Brewers in Surprise, and a 7-5 loss to the Mariners in Peoria.
Bowyer, from Emporia, Kan., has been a lifelong Royals fan and took batting practice with the big leaguers on Wednesday. Riggle, who graduated from Shawnee (Kan.) Mission South High School, brought his wife and two children to camp and mostly was just seeking autographs.
Spring Training information
"Spring Training is what brings me here," Riggle said. "World champs, man. I got my son playing his first year of Little League. Been a Royals fan all my life. We're going for the championship repeat."
Riggle, who now lives in Los Angeles, said his visit to Surprise was just a quick one. He arrived on Tuesday and was to head back to Los Angeles after the Royals' game against the Brewers.
But Riggle said he will be back in Kansas City this summer for his "Big Slick" charity event that features a celebrity softball game at Kauffman Stadium. It is the seventh year of the event.
