SEATTLE -- A red-hot Robinson Cano was named American League Player of the Week on Monday, the seventh time he's earned that honor in his 12-year Major League career and the first time with the Mariners. And Cano says that's a good sign for his entire team.
"I get more credit when we're winning. That's good," Cano said. "You know me. I love to win. Everything is better when you're winning games."
Cano hit .516 (16-for-31) with three doubles, four home runs, eight runs and nine RBIs in seven games against the A's and Astros. He had at least one hit in each of the games and five multihit outings en route to a 1.516 OPS.

Cano had the most hits, total bases (31) and highest OPS of any player in the Majors for the week, and he tied for the highest slugging percentage at 1.000, while having the second-highest batting average, home runs and RBIs. He had four hits and two homers -- including the game-winner in the 10th inning -- in a 3-2 victory at Houston on Saturday.
Cano previously earned AL Player of the Week honors in 2012, '10 (twice), '07 (twice) and '05 while with the Yankees.

During an eight-game hitting streak, Cano has raised his batting average from .226 to .305. He goes into Monday night's homestand opener against the Rays leading the Majors in RBIs with 33 and tied with Colorado's Nolan Arenado for the most home runs with 12 in his first 31 games.
"It's not a surprise," Mariners manager Scott Servais said of Cano's weekly honor. "I've been fortunate enough to see it up close and personal. He's been outstanding. Robbie has been on fire and [Kyle] Seager has picked it up as well. It's nice to have both those guys going at the same time."
What exactly has Cano been doing of late?

"He's hit a lot of homers," Servais said with a smile. "At times, he's been very aggressive and jumped on a lot of first pitches. At other times he's got deeper into counts. He's hit lefties, he's hit righties, he's hit about all the pitches in all the different locations. He's just on one of those real hot streaks and hopefully we can continue to ride it for some time yet."
The Mariners had three AL Player of the Week winners last season, with Nelson Cruz, Brad Miller and Hisashi Iwakuma each earning the honor once.
