Rockies activate RHP Tyler Chatwood from 15-day DL

SAN FRANCISCO - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has activated right-handed pitcher Tyler Chatwood from the 15-day disabled list. To create room on the active roster for Chatwood, the club has optioned infielder Charlie Culberson to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Chatwood (#27) is scheduled to make his season debut in today's game against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park (2:05 p.m. MDT).

Chatwood, 24, made his second Opening Day roster before being placed on the disabled list on April 2 with a left hamstring strain (retroactive to March 29). Chatwood made one rehab start for Triple-A Colorado Springs on April 8 at Round Rock and pitched 6.1 innings and allowed one run on five hits, while walking just one and striking out eight. Last year, he started 20 games for the Rockies and went 8-5 with a 3.15 ERA (111.1 ip, 39 er), 41 walks and 66 strikeouts. His eight wins were a season high and his 66 strikeouts were eight shy of matching his season high (74 in 2011). The Redlands, CA native made five appearances/four starts in Cactus League play and did not receive a decision (15.0 ip, 15 h, 9 r/7 er, 9 bb, 9 so).

Culberson, 25, made his first Opening Day roster this year and has appeared in 9 games for the Rockies, going 2-for-18 with a double and 2 RBI. Last season, he split the year between Triple-A Colorado Springs and Colorado. With the Rockies, he played 47 games and hit .293 (29-for-99) with 5 doubles, 2 home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs. The 6-foot right-hander has hit .245 (34-for-139) with 6 doubles, 2 home runs, 15 RBI and 12 runs in 62 Major League games.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
