Rockies activate INF Nolan Arenado from 15-day DL

LHP Christian Friedrich Optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has activated infielder Nolan Arenado from the 15-day disabled list (left middle finger mallet fracture). In addition, the club has optioned left-handed pitcher Christian Friedrich to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Arenado (#28) will be available for the Rockies games against the Dodgers at Coors Field tonight (6:10 p.m. MDT).

Arenado, 23, fractured his finger on May 23 in Atlanta while sliding into second base and was placed on the disabled list on May 24. During Arenado's rehab, he played in five games with Triple-A Colorado Springs and hit .350 (7-for-20) with 2 doubles, 3 RBI and 2 runs during the stint. Before going on the disabled list, Arenado set a franchise record for his 28-game hitting streak from April 9-May 8 and hit .305 (58-for-190) with 17 doubles, 6 home runs, 28 RBI and 27 runs for Colorado. The Newport Beach, CA native became the first National League rookie third baseman to earn a Rawlings Golden Glove. In 182 Major League games, he has hit .278 (188-for-676) with 46 doubles, 4 triples, 16 home runs, 80 RBI and 76 runs.

Friedrich, 26, made 3 starts in his most recent stint with the Rockies. He was winless going 0-3 with a 9.45 ERA (13.1 ip, 14 er). His 14 punch outs were good for 9.5 strikeouts per 9 innings compared to 8 walks (5.4 BB/9 ip). In his Major League career, he has made 19 starts, all with the Rockies, posting a 5-11 record and a 6.61 ERA (98.0 ip, 72 er). Friedrich was the Rockies first-round pick (25th overall) in the 2008 June Draft out of Eastern Kentucky University.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
