Rockies activate RHP Rafael Betancourt from disabled list

Club Options RHP Manuel Corpas to Triple-A

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have activated right-handed pitcher Rafael Betancourt from the 15-day disabled list. To open a spot on the active roster, the Rockies have optioned right-handed pitcher Manuel Corpas to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Betancourt (#63) will be available for tonight's game against the Baltimore Orioles (5:05 p.m. MDT) at Camden Yards.

 

Betancourt, 38, appeared in 28 games for the Rockies this season finishing 26 games and collecting 15 saves in 16 opportunities before being placed on the disabled list with appendicitis. He has successfully converted a save in each of his last four appearances (4.0 ip, 4 h, 1 er, 1 bb, 1 k). He converted 10-straight save opportunities to begin the season going 1-1 with a 1.65 ERA (16.1 ip, 3 er) over his first 17 games. Betancourt has appeared in 631 Major League games and has gone 36-31 with 73 saves and a 3.15 ERA (643.1 ip, 225 er).

 

Corpas, 31, has pitched in 19 games for Colorado this season after beginning the year with Triple-A Colorado Springs. In those 19 games, he went 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA (32.0 ip, 16 er), allowed 29 hits, walked 12 and struck out 22. The Panama City native has spent majority of his career with Colorado (2006-2011, 2013) and is 13-20 with 34 saves and a 4.12 ERA (364.2 ip, 167 er) over 347 career Major League games, all in relief.

 

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
