Bettis placed on DL with elbow inflammation
Rockies' right-hander tossed six innings in Saturday's loss to Padres
SAN DIEGO -- The Rockies announced on Sunday that Chad Bettis was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation.
The right-hander pitched six innings, allowing three hits, three earned runs and walked three in the Rockies' 5-4 loss against the Padres on Saturday night.
After Saturday's game, Bettis is 5-4 with a 4.91 ERA. He allowed his ninth homer of the season to catcher Austin Hedges in the third. In the sixth, he walked two straight batters before allowing a two-run double to Matt Kemp with two outs.
After Saturday's game Bettis said he felt fatigue while out on the mound.
"He was cruising along up until that point," manager Walt Weiss said before Sunday's game.
"It's always a concern when you are talking about the elbow," Weiss said. "It's a little preliminary right now. But either way, he is going to have a breather here."
Weiss added that he felt Bettis felt fine last night up until that point in the sixth inning.
"You always want guys to fight through stuff to a point," Weiss said. "At the end of the day, you want guys to be honest with you for their well being and the team's well being. Chad is a very tough veteran. All these guys are, they don't ever want to come out of the game."
