De La Rosa pleased with outing; Dickerson's quad sore

DENVER -- Jorge De La Rosa had come and gone from the mound Saturday night long before speedy Nori Aoki came sliding home on Joe Panik's firm bunt to help give the Giants a 5-4 win over the Rockies in 11 innings.

But De La Rosa pitched five solid innings and rebounded from his poor 2015 debut. He allowed four hits and two runs with two walks -- back-to-back with two outs in the fifth -- and seven strikeouts in a 90-pitch effort against San Francisco.

"I thought he looked like himself," manager Walt Weiss said. "He hadn't really been built up all that much, so we were thinking about 90 pitches would be about his max."

De La Rosa began the season on the disabled list with a left groin strain. He made two rehab starts at Triple-A Albuquerque, throwing 57 and 76 pitches in those four- and five-inning outings. In his first start for the Rockies, De La Rosa allowed a career-high nine runs and nine hits Tuesday in two innings against the Padres.

"I feel much better, I was mixing all my pitches pretty good," De La Rosa said. "I stayed in control. More calm and made better pitches today. Kept the ball down. I think that was the key today."

The Rockies have reasons to be optimistic about De La Rosa and are hopeful about Corey Dickerson, who fouled a ball off his left quadriceps muscle in the fifth, finished the at-bat by grounding into a double play, and then left the game.

Dickerson has been dealing with plantar faciitis in his left foot since the final week of Spring Training, but the foul ball that drove him from the game didn't affect his foot.

"My foot's fine," Dickerson said. " My foot's actually getting better. But it [stinks] that it's on the same leg. But it's been getting better every day."

Dickerson said his quad was "a little swollen. But it's fine, just tightened up a little bit."
