Rockies manager Walt Weiss undergoes appendectomy

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Colorado Rockies Manager Walt Weiss underwent an appendectomy Wednesday night, the club announced.

Accompanied by Colorado Head Athletic Trainer Keith Dugger, Weiss left the ballpark Wednesday prior to Rockies' batting practice for further examination and soon thereafter underwent surgery.

Weiss is expected to be hospitalized until Thursday afternoon. No timetable has been established on when he will rejoin the club.   Bench Coach Tom Runnells will guide the team in Weiss' absence.

The Rockies begin a four-game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium Thursday at 8:10 p.m. MDT.
