SAN FRANCISCO -- Rockies catcher Nick Hundley suffered a left oblique injury while taking a swing during batting practice and was scratched just before the Rockies' 17-7 victory over the Giants on Thursday night at AT&T Park.
Manager Walt Weiss went with rookie Tony Wolters, who went 1-for-5 with a two-run double. After the game, Weiss said the club would discuss whether it needed to bring in a catcher to replace Hundley.
This season, Hundley is batting .273 with two home runs and seven RBIs in 13 games. He missed 10 games in April when he was diagnosed with a concussion. Hundley has hit .318 (7-for-22) with a home run, four RBIs and a .423 on-base percentage in six games since returning.
"I've been feeling good physically, so it's frustrating on that end," Hundley said Thursday. "I'll have to check and see how it feels tomorrow. I cut batting practice a little bit short and I was going to go until it got worse."
When Hundley was out before, the Rockies recalled Dustin Garneau from Triple-A Albuquerque, and he went 4-for-10 before Hundley was activated. Tom Murphy, ranked ninth on the MLBPipeline.com list of Rockies top prospects, also is on the 40-man Major League roster, but he's currently on the Albuquerque disabled list with an oblique injury.
