DENVER -- The Rockies officially placed outfielder Gerardo Parra on the 10-day disabled list on Wednesday, and they recalled outfielder/first baseman Jordan Patterson from Triple-A Albuquerque. Parra strained his right quadriceps on a stolen base attempt in Tuesday's 11-3 victory over the Indians.
"It's a little bit better than we thought," manager Bud Black said of the extent of Parra's injury. "These things, you never know. He'll go with us on the trip [to Chicago], and he's still going to be able to hit in the cage. Medically, we're encouraged. It still could be [a few weeks]. Once you get into Day 4, 5 or 6, we'll have a better idea of the timetable."
Patterson will likely only be with the Rockies for a few days, as Alexi Amarista is slated to return from paternity leave during the Cubs series. Patterson hit .271/.295/.508 with eight doubles and two home runs in 59 Spring Training at-bats. But with Albuquerque, he's struggled, slashing .216/.288/.426 with eight home runs 53 games.

"Patty played fine in spring, so it was sort of surprising to me that he got off to a tough start. But that happens sometimes," Black said. "We both got to the ballpark at the same time this morning and walked in together. And he shared with me, self-admitted tough start, but he's feeling better about where his swing is and how he's seeing the ball and his confidence."
Worth noting
• Reliever Adam Ottavino, who was placed on the 10-day disabled list May 30 with right shoulder inflammation, threw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

"Adam felt fine," Black said. "He threw all his pitches with great life to them. We feel as though he's healthy. He feels great, physically and mentally. There's a very good chance he could be activated as soon, as he's eligible to come off the disabled list on Friday."
Ottavino has made 23 appearances so far this season, posting a 2.57 ERA with 24 strikeouts and 15 walks in 21 innings.
• The Rockies have shuffled the starting rotation a bit for their upcoming series in Chicago, swapping right-handers Tyler Chatwood and German Marquez. Chatwood is now scheduled to start on Thursday and Marquez Friday at Wrigley Field.
Black said the rationale behind the swap is to provide an additional day for Marquez's right thumb to heal after he was hit with a comebacker during his most recent start in San Diego.
"It was still a little sore," Black said. "The swelling has subsided, but the trainers thought giving him one more day would be beneficial."
