Rockies place LHP Jonathan Sanchez on 15-Day Disabled List

The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has placed left-handed pitcher Jonathan Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list with left bicep tendinitis. To replace Sanchez on the active roster, the Rockies have recalled right-handed pitcher Tyler Chatwood from Double-A Tulsa. Chatwood (#32) will start today’s game against the Giants at Coors Field at 1:10 pm.

Sanchez, 29, has made three starts for the Rockies this season, going 0-3 with a 9.53 ERA (11.1 ip, 12 er), nine walks, nine strikeouts. Between Colorado and Kansas City this season, Sanchez is 1-9 with an 8.07 ERA (64.2 ip, 58 er) in 15 starts. The left-hander has a career Major League record of 39-55 with a 4.58 ERA (772.2 ip, 393 er), 429 walks and 781 strikeouts in parts of seven seasons with San Francisco (2006-11), Kansas City (2012) and Colorado (2012). This will be the second time in 2012 that Sanchez will be placed on the disabled list as he spent 35 days earlier this season on the disabled list, also with left bicep tendinitis. Sanchez was acquired by Colorado on July 19 from Kansas City in exchange for right-handed pitcher Jeremy Guthrie.

Chatwood, 22, will be in his third stint with the Major League club this season. The right-hander has made seven relief appearance for the Rockies this season, going 1-1 with one save, a 7.62 ERA?(13.0 ip, 11 er), 5 walks and 8 strikeouts. In his 34 career appearances, 25 starts, the Fontana, CA native is 7-12 with a 4.99 ERA (155.0 ip, 86 er), 76 walks and 82 strikeouts with the Angels (2011) and Colorado (2012). Chatwood has spent the remainder of the 2012 season between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Colorado Springs where he has combined to go 1-3 with a 4.70 ERA (61.1 ip, 32 er) in 13 starts. Chatwood was acquired by Colorado from the Angels in exchange for catcher Chris Iannetta on November 30, 2011.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
