Colorado Rockies place pitcher Jordan Lyles on disabled list

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies on Monday placed right-handed pitcher Jordan Lyles on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left great toe and recalled right-hander Tommy Kahnle from Triple-A Albuquerque.

The 24-year-old Lyles suffered the injury in the first game of the May 23 doubleheader vs. San Francisco in the fourth inning. He reinjured the toe Sunday at Philadelphia and was lifted in the second inning. Lyles is 2-5 with a 5.14 ERA (49.0 IP, 28 ER) with 19 walks and 30 strikeouts this season. 

Lyles is 23-38 with a 5.10 ERA (552.2 IP, 313 ER) with 182 walks and 379 strikeouts in 104 games, 97 starts, in parts of five seasons with Houston (2011-2013) and Colorado (2014-2015). He is 9-9 with a 4.56 ERA (175.2 IP, 89 ER), 65 walks and 120 strikeouts in 32 starts with the Rockies.

Kahnle, 25, was 2-1 with a 4.19 ERA (68.2 IP, 32 ER) in 54 games for the Rockies in his debut season of 2014.   He was selected by Colorado in the Major League phase of the 2013 Rule 5 Draft from the New York Yankees (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre). He is 1-2 with a 3.68 ERA (22.0 IP, 9 ER) with eight walks and 26 strikeouts in 17 relief appearances for Albuquerque this season.
