Rockies place RHP Juan Nicasio on 15-day disabled list
Rockies Recall RHP Guillermo Moscoso from Triple-A
The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has placed right-handed pitcher Juan Nicasio on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left knee. To take his place on the active roster, Colorado has recalled right-handed pitcher Guillermo Moscoso. Moscoso (#56) will be in uniform and available for today’s Rockies vs. Dodgers game at Coors Field (1:10 p.m. MDT).
Nicasio, 25, is 2-3 with a 5.28 ERA (58.0 ip, 34 er), 22 walks and 54 strikeouts in 11 starts for Rockies in 2012. He was removed in the 2nd inning of his start yesterday after injuring the knee. The right-hander is 6-7 with a 4.65 ERA (129.2 ip, 67 er), 40 walks and 112 strikeouts in 24 career Major League starts, all with Colorado. Nicasio was a member of the Rockies Opening Day roster for the first time in his career this season. He was originally signed by the Rockies as a non-drafted free agent on August 21, 2006 out of the Dominican Republic. This will be Nicasio’s second stint on the Major League disabled list, as he finished the 2011 season on the DL after fracturing the C-1 vertebrae in his neck on August 5th, 2011.
Moscoso, 29, will be making his second appearance on the Major League roster this season. He spent a week on the active roster from April 28-May 4th, going 0-1 with an 11.57 ERA (9.1 ip, 12 er) in two starts. Moscoso has spent the remainder of his 2012 season with Triple-A Colorado Springs, going 4-3 with a 5.54 ERA (50.1 ip, 31 er), 9 walks and 42 strikeouts in nine starts. He went 3-0 with a 4.06 ERA (31.0 ip, 14 er) in five starts during the month of May for the Sky Sox. The Venezuela native is 8-11 with a 3.97 ERA (152.0 ip, 67 er) in 36 career Major League games, 23 starts. He was acquired by Colorado along with left-handed pitcher Josh Outman from Oakland in exchange for Seth Smith on January 16, 2012.
The Rockies have 39 players on the 40-man roster.
