Rockies recall LHP Jeff Francis from Triple-A Colorado Springs

Club options RHP Collin McHugh to Triple-A

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Jeff Francis from Triple-A Colorado Springs. To make room on the active roster for Francis, the club has optioned right-handed pitcher Collin McHugh. Francis (#26) will be available for today's game against the Milwaukee Brewers (2:10 p.m. MDT) at Coors Field.

Francis, 32, rejoins the Rockies after beginning the season on the Opening Day roster. He made 11 starts for the Rockies earlier this season, going 2-5 with a 6.58 ERA (52.0 ip, 38 er), 17 walks and 43 strikeouts before being optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on June 20. For the Sky Sox, Francis has pitched in nine games, starting six of them and going 2-2 with a 4.63 ERA (35.0 ip, 18 er) striking out 32 compared to eight walks. A veteran of nine Major League seasons with Colorado (2004-2010, 2012-13) and Kansas City (2011), Francis has appeared in 216 career games with 215 starts, going 69-78 with a 4.93 ERA (1230.2 ip, 674 er), 365 walks and 813 strikeouts.

McHugh, 26, was recalled prior to yesterday's start against the Brewers. In his season debut for the Rockies he went 5.0 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits. The Berry College product was acquired from the New York Mets on June 18 for outfielder Eric Young Jr. and has gone 0-2 with a 10.50 ERA (12.0 ip, 14 er) in four games, two starts, for the Mets and Rockies. In 12 career Major League games, he's made six starts and has gone 0-6 with a 8.64 ERA (33.1 ip, 32 er)

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
