Rockies recall RHP Juan Nicasio from Triple-A Colorado Springs

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Juan Nicasio from Triple-A Colorado Springs and optioned left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz to Triple-A. Nicasio (#12) is scheduled to start tonight's game vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (8:10 p.m. MDT) at Dodger Stadium.

Nicasio, 26, made his second consecutive Opening Day roster this season and went 4-4 with a 5.31 ERA (81.1 ip, 48 er) in 16 starts before being optioned to Triple-A on June 28. In two starts with Colorado Springs, he went 1-0 with a 0.82 ERA over 11.0 innings while allowing just one walk compared to eight strikeouts. In his most recent start on July 5 against Reno, he tossed eight scoreless innings and allowed five hits while striking out six. Over parts of three seasons with Colorado, Nicasio has 40 career starts and has gone 10-11 with a 4.91 ERA (211.0 ip, 115 er), 234 hits, 70 walks and 168 strikeouts.

Pomeranz, 24, began the year at Triple-A Colorado Springs before being recalled on June 30. He made three starts for Colorado going 0-3 over 12.1 innings, while allowing 12 runs on 19 hits. The Ole Miss product has made 29 career Major League starts and has gone 4-13 with a 5.37 ERA (127.1.0 ip, 76 er).

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
