Rockies send McClendon to Minor League camp

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Non-roster right-handed reliever Mike McClendon, who pitched out of a tight situation on Sunday and has not given up a Cactus League run this spring, was one of six players the Rockies sent to Minor League camp on Monday.

McClendon has thrown just 3 2/3 innings. He replaced Jhoulys Chacin against the Giants on Sunday with a runner at second and two out in the fifth inning of a tie game and forced a fly ball to end the threat. McClendon is 5-0 with a 3.88 ERA in 35 Major League games 2010-12, all with the Brewers, and was brought in for relief depth.

Other sent down were outfield prospect Kent Matthes, first baseman Henry Wrigley, infielder Tommy Manzella and left-handed pitcher Nick Schmidt.

The Rockies are down to 46 players in camp, including 12 non-roster invitees, and must be down to 25 on the active roster by Opening Day.
