Rockies to make Hale 26th man for twin bill

DENVER -- Rockies manager Walt Weiss on Monday confirmed that right-hander David Hale will start one of the games in Tuesday's doubleheader against the Dodgers as the 26th man, but Weiss wasn't sure which game it would be.

"Hale and [Jorge] De La Rosa [will start on Tuesday], but I'm not sure in what order yet," Weiss said before Monday's series opener.

Hale started Game 2 of the Rockies' doubleheader vs. San Francisco on May 23 and he yielded just three runs (two earned) in 6 2/3 frames. It'll be his third doubleheader start in the last two seasons.

If Hale does take the mound in the nightcap, his mentality is simple -- essentially block out the first game and treat it like a normal start.

"If I am [starting] the second game, you almost treat it like it's the one game," Hale said. "As a starter, you don't have to be here for all of [the doubleheader]. You just stay in the mindset like it's that one game and pretend like that's the only one. You try to keep it as much like a normal start."
