SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Rockies shortstop Trevor Story hit a two-run home run off Rangers starter Yu Darvish, and Colorado used a ninth-inning run on a Dom Nunez single to win 3-2 on Tuesday at Surprise Stadium.
Story's first-inning home run brought in DJ LeMahieu, who reached on the first of three straight opposite-field singles. It was Story's third home run in seven Cactus League games.
"The pitch was in the middle of the plate, inside," Darvish said. "When he first made contact, I thought he had hit it off the end of the bat. But out [in Arizona], I knew it was gone."
Story, an Irving, Texas, native, noted that even though it's Spring Training, it was a treat to play the Rangers, the team he grew up rooting for. He was injured and missed the Rockies' series on the road against the Rangers last August.
"I was pretty disappointed I couldn't play last year in Arlington. I was really looking forward to that," Story said. "But this was pretty cool. I got that same kind of feeling, playing them here in Spring Training."

The two runs off Story's home run were all Darvish allowed in three-plus innings. He allowed four hits and two walks while striking out three.

Rockies starter Tyler Anderson went 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on a home run by Rangers first baseman Mike Napoli. Anderson struck out three, all in the first inning, and the left-hander said he needs to work on consistency.
"The home run was an executed pitch -- probably not the right pitch -- then after that there was a runner on, and I got away from execution a little bit," Anderson said. "I just need to make some more executed pitches out of the stretch."

Rockies rookie right-hander Antonio Senzatela was impressive in relief with three scoreless innings for the Rockies. He allowed just one hit and struck out four in his bid for a spot in the rotation.

Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre started at third base for the Rangers and went 0-for-2. It was his last game before leaving to join the Dominican Republic for the World Baseball Classic.
Rockies Up Next: The Rockies are off on Wednesday but will play Team Puerto Rico on Thursday at 1:10 p.m. MT at Salt River Fields on Gameday Audio. Right-hander Jon Gray will start for the Rockies, and rotation hopeful Jeff Hoffman also is scheduled to pitch. Rayan Gonzalez, the Rockies' No. 22 prospect according to MLBPipeline.com, will pitch for the Rockies, but he could be used by Puerto Rico during the Classic.
Rangers Up Next: The Rangers are off on Wednesday before hosting Team Venezuela on Thursday in Surprise at 2:05 p.m. CT on MLB.TV. Right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez will start for the Rangers against a Venezuelan team that includes a few of their own players: catcher Robinson Chirinos, second baseman Rougned Odor and pitcher Martin Perez.
