Yost cautious as closer Holland nears return

DETROIT -- The Royals bypassed closer Greg Holland in the save situation in Wednesday night's 3-0 win over the Tigers and successfully went with Wade Davis instead.

Holland has been out for a week with a tight right triceps and cautious manager Ned Yost wasn't quite ready to get him back into action.

"Greg felt fine today," Yost said after the game. "I was going to go up to the point where Greg said, 'I don't feel anything,' and then give him another day. So we'll see how he feels [Thursday] and if he feels fine, he'll be OK."

The Royals open a series against the Red Sox on Thursday at Kauffman Stadium.
