Rookies Arcia, Pinto out of action in season finale

MINNEAPOLIS -- Rookies Oswaldo Arcia and Josmil Pinto were both held out of the lineup for the Twins' final game of the season on Sunday.

Arcia has been dealing with a bruised right knee sustained on Monday, when he injured it while jumping up at the wall during batting practice. And Pinto bruised his right hand when he was hit by a pitch on Friday.

Arcia served as a pinch-hitter on Thursday and started at designated hitter on Friday but went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in those two games, while Pinto hasn't played since leaving Friday's game after the fourth inning.

"[Arcia] is not moving great right now," Gardenhire said. "I think his knee is still bothering him. I saw him limping after he swung, so I don't trust it. Pinto went down to swing, but I didn't see any sense in that either. I know yesterday when he grabbed a bat he felt a little sore. So it doesn't make any sense to press the issue with these kids here."

With Arcia out, Clete Thomas made the start in left field, while Eric Fryer made his second straight start behind the plate with Pinto out of action.
