The Pittsburgh Pirates are expected to place infielder Jung Ho Kang on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury. Kang sustained his injury in last night's game while sliding head-first into second base in the eighth inning. The estimated time of return to competition is two to four weeks.
To take Kang's place on the 25-man active roster, first baseman/outfielder Josh Bell is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis and be active for tonight's game.
This will be Bell's second stint with the Pirates this season. He was also with the team from July 8-16 and went 2-for-2 with a home run, four RBI, two walks and three runs scored in four games.
At the time of his promotion back to the big leagues today, Bell ranked 10th in the International League in batting (.295), tied for fourth in total bases (197), fifth in on-base percentage (.382) and OPS (.850) and seventh in hits (124) and slugging percentage (.468).
Bell will wear uniform No. 55.
