The Pirates have selected RHP Angel Sánchez from Triple-A Indianapolis and have optioned RHP Edgar Santana back to Indianapolis.
The 27-year-old Sánchez has no Major League experience and will be wearing uniform #59.
In 39 relief appearances with Indy this season, Sánchez went 3-5 with one save and a 3.74 ERA (55.1ip/51h/23r/23er/15bb/65so). He has been scored upon just twice in his last 15 Triple-A games, dating back to July 4 (17.2ip/3er - 1.53 ERA).
Sánchez was originally signed by the Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent on 7/12/10 before being traded to Miami in the Ricky Nolasco deal on 7/6/13. The Pirates claimed him off waivers from the White Sox organization on 7/3/14. Sánchez missed the entire 2016 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery on 9/16/15.
