The Pirates have made the following roster moves:
George Kontos (RHP) has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right groin strain (retroactive to 8/20).
Steven Brault (LHP) has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to replace Kontos on the active roster.
Dovydas Neverauskas (RHP) has been optioned to Indianapolis and Joaquin Benoit (RHP) has been placed on the 10-day D.L. with left knee inflammation.
Johnny Barbato (RHP) and Edgar Santana (RHP) have been recalled from Indianapolis.
Brault (#43) has made three relief appearances with the Pirates this year (8.0ip/8h/4r/4er/3bb/3so). He last pitched on 8/18 vs. St. Louis and threw 64 pitches in 4.0 innings of work.
In 21 games (20 starts) with Indy this season, Brault has gone 10-5 with an International League leading 1.94 ERA.
Barbato (#51) is in his second stint with the Pirates this season. He made 15 relief appearances with Pittsburgh between April 28 and June 7, posting a 4.84 ERA (22.1ip/22h/12r/12er/13bb/17so).
In 25 games (three starts) with Indianapolis, Barbato has gone 0-2 with a 3.41 ERA (34.1ip/30h/13r/13er/12bb/33so). Since the start of July, he has recorded a 2.05 ERA (22.0ip/5er) in 16 games (two starts) at Triple-A.
Santana (#37) made his Major League debut with the Pirates earlier this season on June 10. He appeared in nine games with Pittsburgh between June 10 and July 2 and produced a 5.87 ERA (7.2ip/10h/6r/5er/5bb/12so).
In 40 games with Indianapolis this season, Santana has gone 1-3 with seven saves (eight chances) and a 2.77 ERA (52.0ip/54h/17r/16er/12bb/47so).
