MINNEAPOLIS -- Royals outfielder Alex Gordon was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured scaphoid bone and a sprain in his right wrist, and the club recalled infielder Cheslor Cuthbert before Monday's game against the Twins.
Royals manager Ned Yost said that Gordon will be re-evaluated in 10 days, but the expected shelf time is believed to be about 3-4 weeks.
Gordon suffered the injury when he collided with third baseman Mike Moustakas in foul territory chasing a popup during Sunday's 3-2 loss to the White Sox.

Moustakas also sustained a bruised left knee. He was a late scratch from Monday's lineup.
"We thought we'd give [Moustakas] a chance to play," Yost said, "but he did some pregame stuff and we decided to hold him back. It's day to day."
Yost said he plans to use a combination of Jarrod Dyson, Paulo Orlando and Whit Merrifield to fill the corner outfielder spots in Gordon's absence.
Cuthbert, Yost said, is insurance for Moustakas' injury. Yost said Cuthbert also could see some time at second base. Yost said the good news about Gordon's injury is that it is a non-displaced, non-surgical fracture.
"He was OK after the game," Yost said of Gordon. "But when we flew and he landed it was really, really sore, so they set him up for a CT scan and MRI [in Minneapolis]. They did see the scaphoid [fracture in Chicago], which is a smaller bone in the wrist.
"They thought yesterday in the X-ray that it could have been an old fracture that had healed. But then the MRI showed it was a new one."
Gordon was hitting .211 with four homers and 10 RBIs in 42 games.
