KANSAS CITY -- Royals catcher Salvador Perez, the reigning World Series Most Valuable Player, is the leading vote-getter in the American League for the 2016 Major League Baseball All-Star Game presented by MasterCard.
Perez was the fan-elected starting catcher for the AL at the 2015 All-Star Game. He has received 1,094,942 votes this season. Recovering from a quad contusion, Perez is batting .277 and leads AL catchers with 46 hits and 11 doubles, and he is tied for first with seven home runs and 25 RBIs.

Perez has thrown out 12 of 24 runners attempting to steal.
Eric Hosmer leads the AL first baseman race with 871,222 votes. Hosmer is hitting .323 with 10 homers and 33 RBIs.

Center fielder Lorenzo Cain has 647,339 votes, trailing just Mike Trout of the Angels (934,137) in the AL outfield, which puts him in line for one of the three starting spots. Cain is hitting .346 this month with five homers and 21 RBIs.
Perez's vote total wasn't surprising to Cain.
"That's to be expected," Cain said. "He's No. 1 in everything. Happy for him."
Cain enjoys Royals fans frantic approach to voting.
"It's huge," Cain said. "They're coming out here each and every night supporting us. Couldn't ask for a better crowd. And they also [show] it on the vote side as well. It's a process in which they've taken full advantage of and we definitely enjoy it to the fullest."
