Royals charities to visit Kansas RBI's new baseball field
Visit is third stop of the Royals Charities Giving Week
As a part of the first-ever Giving Week, Royals Charities will visit the new Kansas Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (Kansas RBI) baseball field at the Barton-Ross Complex today.
The visit will start at 3 p.m. at 5325 Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kan. Royals Charities will present a check for $100,000 for the field renovation. Royals alumni will be on hand to play baseball with boys and girls who participate in the Kansas RBI program. Alumni participating in the visit include Willie Aikens, Tom Burgmeier, Brian McRae, Jeff Montgomery, Marty Pattin, Jamie Quirk and Joe Randa. Royals broadcaster Steve Physioc will also be in attendance.
An affiliate of Major League Baseball's RBI program, Kansas RBI at Success Achieved In Future Environments (S.A.F.E.) provides Kansas boys and girls, ages 3-18, the opportunity to play organized baseball and softball while teaching them teamwork, leadership and life skills. Royals Charities, along with remaining 2012 All-Star Lasting Legacy Funds, has contributed $300,000 overall to the major field renovation. An official ribbon cutting for the Barton-Ross Complex is scheduled for April 2016.
Royals Charities has been traveling throughout the Greater Kansas City area this week presenting grants to various organizations. Royals front office staff and alumni visited Operation Breakthrough on Monday and Hope House on Tuesday. On Thursday a group will accompany the team's 2015 World Championship trophy to Fort Leavenworth. Then on Friday, a Royals contingent will visit the Variety Adaptive Playground site and the Johnson Country Christmas Bureau Family Holiday Shop, both in Olathe, Kan.
