Royals draw record viewership for opener

KANSAS CITY -- The party keeps rolling for these Royals.

The Royals' feel-good 10-1 thumping of the White Sox on Monday not only drew 40,085 fans at The K, it also was witnessed by a record television audience in Kansas City -- the game drew an 11.7 rating on FOX Sports Kansas City, the highest rating ever for a home or season opener on FSKC.

Last year's home opener drew a 6.2 rating.

The Monday rating also was the fifth best for a Royals game on FSKC -- all five have come in the last two years. The highest was a 13.6 rating last Sept. 26 against the White Sox on the night the Royals clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 1985.
