Hosmer, Young voted tops for Royals in May

KANSAS CITY -- First baseman Eric Hosmer and right-hander Chris Young were voted the Royals' player and pitcher of the month for May.

Hosmer led the Royals with a .296 average, four home runs and a .520 slugging percentage in May. He also had a 12-game hitting streak during the month. It's the seventh time he has won a monthly honor since his debut in 2011. Voting for the player of the month is done by fans and the local media.

Young went 3-1 with a 1.45 ERA over six appearances, including five starts. Young held opponents to a .179 average, third best among American League pitchers during May. Voting for the pitcher of the month is done by the local media.
