In honor of the one-year anniversary of the historic World Series Parade in downtown Kansas City, Royals Front Office associates are volunteering today at three organizations across the city.
On Tuesday, November 3, 2015, Kansas City came together to celebrate at a World Series Championship Parade like no other.
"Many consider that day one of the greatest days in Kansas City history," said Toby Cook, Royals Vice President-Publicity. "Now that the league has a new world champion, we thought it would be fun and very appropriate to remember that day by helping others, something we celebrate every bit as much as winning titles."
From 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., more than 40 Royals associates, along with Royals pitcher Danny Duffy, outfielder Paulo Orlando and Royals Broadcasters Rex Hudler and Steve Physioc, will divide into groups to help each organization with designated projects.
• Giving the Basics, located at 3150 Mercier St., Suite 270-DC in Kansas City, Mo., is an organization that tracks the need for hygiene products and distributes them to more than 55 pantry locations and 12 major school districts. Currently, they are serving more than 179,000 people monthly. Royals associates will be packing hygiene kits throughout the afternoon.
• Harvesters-The Community Food Bank, located at 3801 Topping Ave. in Kansas City, Mo., is a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas. Royals associates will help pack BackSnack Kits. Each week, Harvesters distributes 20,000 kits to help address the issue of weekend hunger for kids in the community.
• KC Pet Project, located at 4400 Raytown Road, , is an animal shelter for Kansas City, Mo., which promotes lifesaving programs and facilitates placement of homeless pets into suitable homes. Royals associates will help sanitize kennels, landscape and do general sorting and organizing.
