Children Featured in Many Events Including PLAY Clinic, Touch Tour and Perfect Attendance Night

KANSAS CITY, MO - The Kansas City Royals return to Kauffman Stadium to host the Milwaukee Brewers (June 17-18) and Boston Red Sox (June 19-21). The Royals will host many groups through different programs including the Father of the Year Recognition (June 17), Touch Tour with Alphapointe, the PLAY Clinic and Perfect Attendance Night (all on June 18).

In addition, throughout the week the Royals join Major League Baseball to raise awareness in the fight against prostate cancer by teaming up with the Prostate Cancer Foundation for the 19th annual Home Run Challenge. With support from Major League Clubs and players, each home run hit in all games this week through Father's Day raises money for the fight against prostate cancer. Wednesday, June 17 - Milwaukee Brewers vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.
  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.
  • Royals Father of the Year Honorees Recognized - In celebration of Father's Day, thousands of students submit essays entitled "What My Father Means to Me" through the National Center for Fathering's "Royals Father of the Year" contest. The winning authors and fathers are treated with complimentary game tickets and a special pre-game reception from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Royals Hall of Fame Pavilion. Finalists will be recognized during pregame ceremonies, with the winning father sitting in the Buck O'Neil Legacy Seat. Royals Charities helped support the contest this year by awarding a $10,000 grant.

 

Thursday, June 18 - Milwaukee Brewers vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.
  • PLAY Clinic - The Royals team up with the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) to host a free PLAY (Promoting a Lifetime of Activity for Youth) clinic at Kauffman Stadium from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Royals left fielder Alex Gordon and Head Athletic Trainer Nick Kenney will join members of the Royals sports medicine staff to lead 125 pre-selected youth from the Kansas City, Kan. and Kansas City, Mo. Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities programs, Police Athletic League, and others in exercises to promote health and wellness.
  • Touch Tour with Alphapointe - The Royals partner with Alphapointe to host kids with visual impairments to a pre-game tour in the Royals Hall of Fame, beeper ball on the Blue KC Little K and will get to enjoy that night's game against the Brewers. In addition, the children will get to meet with Royals broadcasters. The experience will provide an up-close perspective for the young fans who enjoy Royals games through different senses. The event will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Royals Hall of Fame. 
  • Perfect Attendance Night - Nearly 4,000 area elementary school children who achieve perfect attendance throughout the academic school year are honored at the first of two Perfect Attendance Days (the second is July 20). The Royals salute these dedicated students with complimentary tickets.

 

Friday, June 19 - Boston Red Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.
  • 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - A portion of the proceeds from the Royals Charities fundraiser will benefit Big Slick. www.royals.com/5050.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association host a silent auction near Guest Services on the main concourse from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. Unique auctions will take place during each game of this series.

 

Saturday, June 20 - Boston Red Sox vs. Royals, 6:10 p.m.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association host a silent auction near Guest Services on the main concourse from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. Unique auctions will take place during each game of this series.

 

Sunday, June 21 - Boston Red Sox vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.
  • KU Health Awareness Night - The Royals and the University of Kansas Hospital are proud to partner to bring Prostate Cancer Awareness Day to Kauffman Stadium. Learn about the life-saving power of prostate screening. Patients who have been affected by prostate cancer will be honored during the first pitch ceremony and through the Buck O'Neil Legacy Seat program. Players and on-field personnel will wear MLB blue ribbon wristbands and blue ribbon decals to their uniforms to raise awareness for prostate cancer.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association host a silent auction near Guest Services on the main concourse from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. Unique auctions will take place during each game of this series.
