30th Annual Royals Wives Food Drive Set for June 25-26

KANSAS CITY, MO (June 21, 2012) – The Kansas City Royals and the Royals Wives are set to host the 30th Annual Royals Wives Food Drive during the upcoming homestand, June 22-27.  All food and cash donations raised during the two-day drive, scheduled for Monday, June 25 and Tuesday, June 26 when the Royals take on the Tampa Bay Rays, will benefit Bishop Sullivan Center, one of the largest providers of emergency assistance in the Kansas City area.

Below is a listing of the club’s upcoming community efforts for June 22-27.

Friday, June 22 – St. Louis Cardinals vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 7:10 p.m.

50/50 Friday – For every Friday home game, volunteers sell raffle tickets from the time gates open until the end of the fourth inning.  One winning ticket will be selected with the winner taking home half of the evening’s net proceeds.  The other half will be divided between Royals Charities and a local Kansas City charity.  Variety Children’s Charity of Greater Kansas City will be the designated charity for Friday’s fundraiser.  www.royals.com/5050

Royals Charities and MLB Players Alumni Association Concourse Auction – Royals Charities partners with the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association for an exclusive silent auction featuring memorabilia from current and former MLB stars.  The auction, which runs from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning, will be located on the third base side of the Diamond Club on the Field/Plaza Level.  Proceeds benefit Royals Charities and the MLBPAA to help offer free youth baseball clinics for kids.

Stars of the Classroom – The Royals join the Missouri Lottery to honor outstanding educators through the Missouri Lottery Stars of the Classroom recognition program.  Prior to six Royals games throughout the season, the Missouri Lottery and the Royals celebrate the achievements of top teachers from six school districts in the metro area.

  • Budweiser Walk-Off A Hero – The Royals and Budweiser salute a member of the military by providing complimentary tickets and recognizing the honoree with a special in-game recognition. 

 

Saturday, June 23 – St. Louis Cardinals vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 1:10 p.m.

Sunday, June 24 – St. Louis Cardinals vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 1:10 p.m.

Royals Troopers – The Royals Grounds Crew welcomes select children who have a parent deployed through the United States military efforts overseas to join them in game preparations as part of the Royals Troopers program presented by John Deere.  The honored kids will help prepare the field prior to the game and will receive game tickets and Royals merchandise.

Monday, June 25 – Tampa Bay Rays vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Royals Wives Food Drive – Royals Wives host the 30th Annual Food Drive to benefit Bishop Sullivan Center during the first two games of the Rays series.  Non-perishable, kid-friendly food items will be collected in the Outfield Experience from 6-8 p.m.  The wives will also host an exclusive silent auction as part of Friday’s fundraising events. 

Perfect Attendance Night – More than 6,000 area elementary school children who achieve perfect attendance throughout the academic school year are honored at one of two Perfect Attendance Days (also July 16). The Royals salute these dedicated students with complimentary tickets.

Tuesday, June 26 – Tampa Bay Rays vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Royals Wives Food Drive – The annual Royals Wives Food Drive to benefit Bishop Sullivan Center continues from 6-8 p.m. in the Outfield Experience as wives will be selling mystery bags that include a baseball autographed by a Royals player for a $20 donation and player autograph cards for a $10 donation.  Non-perishable, kid-friendly food items will also be collected. 

Dream Factory – Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children.  These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout, and enjoy the game and refreshments.  Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

Breaking Barriers Winner Recognition – Eryk Yarkosky from Overland Trail Elementary School in Overland Park, Kan., will be recognized during pregame ceremonies.  Breaking Barriers: In Sports, In Life was developed by MLB, Sharon Robinson and Scholastic, the global children’s publishing, education and media company.  Through the Breaking Barriers essay contest, students submit essays about how they have overcome barriers or obstacles they have faced or are still facing in their lives using the values demonstrated by Jackie Robinson – commitment, citizenship, courage, determination, excellence, justice, persistence, teamwork and integrity.  As part of his prize, Yarkosky received 50 complimentary tickets to Tuesday’s game for his class.

Wednesday, June 27 – Tampa Bay Rays vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

Royals and 610 Sports Radio Team Up for “Royals Charities presents Royals Weekly” Radio Show

Fans can learn about all of the club’s community and charity efforts by tuning into the “Royals Charities presents Royals Weekly” radio program.  The one-hour show, which is scheduled to air every Sunday at 10 a.m. throughout the season, can be heard on 610 Sports Radio, the flagship station of the Royals.  In addition to the club’s community outreach efforts, the program will highlight upcoming player appearances and provide a season-long radio tour of the Royals Hall of Fame.
