Royals Host Two Special Clinics during Upcoming Homestand

The Kansas City Royals will host two special instructional clinics during the club's upcoming 10-game homestand, which begins on Monday, August 5. The Royals will welcome athletes from Special Olympics to Kauffman Stadium for a special clinic on Wednesday, August 7. The club's sports medicine staff will then host a PLAY clinic for youth from the Guadalupe Center on Monday, August 12.

In addition, first baseman Eric Hosmer will continue his support of the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters program by participating in a couple of events during the upcoming homestand, while designated hitter Billy Butler hosts "Billy's Country Breakfast" for supporters of his Hit-It-A-Ton program to benefit the Bishop Sullivan Center on Saturday, August 10.

Monday, August 5 - Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - Royals Charities is hosting a 50/50 Raffle for every Royals home game in 2013, giving fans more chances to win big! Royals Charities staffers will sell raffle tickets from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. Tuesday, August 6 - Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Hosmer Big Brothers/Big Sisters Meet & Greet - During batting practice, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer will meet children and mentors involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program of Greater Kansas City. Hosmer serves as a spokesperson for BBBS and hosted a recruiting event for "Bigs" earlier this year.

Wednesday, August 7 - Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Special Olympics Clinic - The Royals welcome athletes from Special Olympics Kansas City Metro and Special Olympics Kansas to Kauffman Stadium from noon to 1:30 p.m. for a special on-field clinic with former Royals Al Fitzmorris, Ed Hearn, Dennis Leonard and John Wathan. The event also features a meet and greet session.

  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

Thursday, August 8 - Boston Red Sox vs. Royals presented by Sprint, 7:10 p.m.

  • Hit-It-A-Ton Breakfast - Silver Slugger Award winner Billy Butler and his wife, Katie, will host "Billy's Country Breakfast" at O'Hara High School, located at 9001 James A. Reed Road in Kansas City, Mo. The ticket-only event is for donors to the Hit-It-A-Ton program to benefit the Bishop Sullivan Center. Butler and several Royals teammates will sign autographs and take part in a wiffle ball game with the kids beginning at 10 a.m. The Butlers created the Hit-It-A-Ton program to benefit the Bishop Sullivan Center pantries and community kitchen in 2008.
  • Hosmer to Appear at 500 Backpacks Event for Big Brothers/Big Sisters - First baseman Eric Hosmer will make an appearance alongside Chiefs safety Eric Berry and Ms. Missouri 2013 Shannon Tajchman at the 500 Backpacks event for kids from Big Brothers/Big Sisters. During the event, scheduled for 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods located at 17730 E. 39th St. in Independence, Mo., the kids will receive backpacks filled with school supplies.
