Royals Celebrity Golf Tournament set for August 19; Club to host Players for the Planet event on August 23-24

The Kansas City Royals and Royals Charities host one of its biggest charity events - the Royals Celebrity Golf Tournament - prior to the upcoming homestand on Monday, August 19 at The National Golf Club of Kansas City. Proceeds benefit the Special Olympics of Greater Kansas City Metro.

In addition, the club has several other outreach events scheduled during the homestand, including Players for the Planet, a two-day recycling event during which people from the community can bring unwanted electronics to have them recycled on August 23 and 24. Select Royals will appear at the event with details to be announced.

In addition, Royals players will be supporting several community groups and programs during the homestand. Select Royals will appear at a Legends Luncheon to benefit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum on Friday, August 23. Also that day, pitcher Louis Coleman will take part in a free autograph session for fans at the Taco Bell located across from Kauffman Stadium, first baseman Eric Hosmer will meet with participants of the local Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and pitcher James Shields will host another Big Game James Section for local foster children. Designated hitter Billy Butler will also make an appearance at the Rally House in Lenexa, Kan., to sign autographs and raise money for the Bishop Sullivan Center on Saturday, August 24.

Monday, August 19 - Off Day

· Royals Celebrity Golf Tournament - Royals Charities hosts the sixth annual Royals Celebrity Golf Tournament featuring current and former Royals at The National Golf Club of Kansas City in Parkville, Mo. Current Royals scheduled to participate include pitchers Jeremy Guthrie, Greg Holland and James Shields, designated hitter Billy Butler and more. Sprint serves as a presenting sponsor of this sold-out tournament, and all proceeds will again benefit the Special Olympics of Greater Kansas City Metro. The event will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Following the tournament, Royals Charities will host a reception that includes the Pepsi Silent Auction and the Hendrick Lexus North Awards Program and Live Auction.

Tuesday, August 20 - Chicago White Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

· 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson - Royals Charities is hosting a 50/50 Raffle for every Royals home game in 2013, giving fans more chances to win big! Royals Charities staffers will sell raffle tickets from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning. Wednesday, August 21 - Chicago White Sox vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout, and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.

· Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Friday, August 23 - Washington Nationals vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

Players for the Planet - The Royals team up with Players for the Planet and Interstate Batteries to host a recycling event during which people from the community can bring unwanted computers, televisions, radios and other electronic items to be recycled. The first day of the event will be held at the Interstate All Battery Center located at 5255 W. 95th St. in Overland Park, Kan. Fans may drop off electronics from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. To offset recycling costs, a donation of $10 per CRT monitor, TV or car is suggested. The first 200 cars will receive two View Level tickets to an upcoming 2013 regular season Royals game, while supplies last.

· Royals to Attend Legends Luncheon - Outfielders Lorenzo Cain, Jarrod Dyson and Justin Maxwell will be featured guests at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum's Legends Luncheon set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bruce Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, located at 3700 Blue Parkway in Kansas City, Mo. Legends Luncheons, held monthly during the baseball season, bring together some of the game's biggest personalities who share insight and stories about their careers. The discussions are hosted by former Royals Willie Wilson and Al Fitzmorris with proceeds benefiting the NLBM. Space is limited. · Coleman to Meet Fans at Taco Bell - Pitcher Louis Coleman will meet fans and sign autographs at the Taco Bell® restaurant located across from Kauffman Stadium at 4017 Blue Ridge Cut-Off in Kansas City, Mo., from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Fans are invited to come out and meet Coleman during this free event.

· Hosmer Big Brothers/Big Sisters Meet & Greet - During batting practice, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer will meet children and mentors involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program of Greater Kansas City. Hosmer serves as a spokesperson for BBBS and hosted a recruiting event for "Bigs" earlier this year.

· Big Game James Section - Pitcher James Shields, together with the Royals and KCP&L, will host foster care children and their families in the Big Game James Section. Each child will receive complimentary tickets in section 206, a "Big Game James" t-shirt and a free meal courtesy of ARAMRARK and Papa John's Pizza. Guests will also participate in a meet and greet with Shields prior to the game.

· Heart & Hustle Award - The Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association honors Alex Gordon as the Royals recipient of the Heart and Hustle Award, which recognizes players who best demonstrate a passion for the game.

Butler at Rally House - Billy Butler will be signing autographs at the Rally House in Lenexa, Kan., from noon-1 p.m. Tickets must be purchased to get an autograph and will be limited to the first 250 fans. A ticket is available for a $10 donation to Bishop Sullivan Center to help support Billy's charity, Hit-It-A-Ton, and can be purchased at Rally House the day of the appearance.

Sunday, August 25 - Washington Nationals vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

· UMPS CARE - The Royals partner with Major League Baseball umpires to offer memorable baseball experiences for children awaiting adoption and at-risk youth in mentoring programs. The children receive a VIP experience including complimentary tickets, a baseball goody bag, and the unique opportunity to step on to the field for a souvenir baseball and photo.

· Royals Troopers - The Royals Grounds Crew welcomes select children who have a parent deployed through the United States military efforts overseas to join them in game preparations as part of the Royals Troopers program. The honored kids will help prepare the field prior to the game and will receive game tickets and Royals merchandise.
