KANSAS CITY -- Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas is expected to join Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Wednesday to begin a short rehab stint as he recovers from a broken bone in the palm of his left hand.
The Royals chose Northwest Arkansas for the assignment because they are at home and thus closer. Triple-A Omaha is playing in Reno, Nev.
If all goes well, Moustakas is expected to rejoin the Royals while the team is in Chicago on Saturday.
Moustakas has been taking batting practice in the inside cages and has been throwing and taking grounders. Moustakas said Monday he was very close to being 100 percent.
"He's hacking full in a cage, really swinging good," Yost said. "It's regular batting practice. He'd be hitting out here on the field if it was dry. But he's been taking full swings in the cage."
26th man?
For Wednesday's doubleheader with the Red Sox, both teams will be allowed to add a 26th man to their roster for the day.
Yost wasn't hinting who that might be.

Gee, Duffy will make starts; Perez will sit
Yost said Dillon Gee and Danny Duffy will make their starts this weekend in Chicago, with Duffy having an increased pitch-count limit to 60. Gee will not have any pitch-count limitations.
Also, Yost said catcher Salvador Perez will get the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader off, and Drew Butera will catch right-hander Ian Kennedy. Perez will catch right-hander Edinson Volquez in the nightcap.
