Rey Navarro's squeeze bunt in the seventh lifted Northwest Arkansas to a series opening win. Sugar Ray Marimon scattered five hits over 6.0 innings, allowing a run on a solo homer in the second. Brett Eibner hit a leadoff home run on his way to a 3-for-4 night. He is 7-for-12 over his last three contests.

Wilmington was blanked in the opener at Winston-Salem. The Dash scored all four runs in the third off of 2012 first-round pick Kyle Zimmer (3.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO). Chris Beck, a second-round pick by Chicago last year, held Wilmington to four hits and a walk over 8.0 innings. Tim Ferguson recorded two singles for the Blue Rocks, boosting his average to .391 (9-for-23).
