Royals Minor League Report: July 6

Omaha Storm Chasers (56-32)

Iowa 5, Omaha 4 (11 innings)

The Storm Chasers dropped a tough one in 11 innings. Designated hitter Johnny Giavotella gave Omaha a chance, hitting a game-tying solo home run in the ninth inning to send the game into extras. The Cubs were able to push across the winner against Omaha reliever Tommy Hottovy, who was working his third inning of the night. Roman Colon allowed a run on two hits in a spot start. Rehabbing Lorenzo Cain was 2-for-5 with a double, playing nine innings in center.

NW Arkansas Naturals (4-10 in second half, 41-43 overall)

Corpus Christi 3, NW Arkansas 0
LP: Sugar Ray Marimon (1-1)
HR: None

The Naturals were shutout on three hits as Corpus Christi has taken the first two of the series. Sugar Ray Marimon had his toughest outing since his promotion, allowing three runs in 4.2 innings with four strikeouts. Bryan Paukovits fanned seven in 3.1 relief frames. Yem Prades, Paulo Orlando and Brian Fletcher had the hits for Northwest Arkansas.

Wilmington Blue Rocks (7-9 in second half, 36-50 overall)

Wilmington 6, Lynchburg 5 (10 innings)
WP: Sam Runion (3-1)
HR: Lane Adams 2 (3, 4), Matt Fields (5), Orlando Calixte (2)

Wilmington won in extras as Lane Adams hit his second home run of the game in the top of the 10th to provide the final margin. Adams' second blast was the fourth for Wilmington on the evening. Matt Fields hit his fifth homer in six games and Orlando Calixte also went deep. Brooks Pounders gave up five runs in 5.2 innings for the no decision. Lefty Antonio Cruz and Sam Runion combined for 4.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Kane County Cougars (9-6 in second half, 43-42 overall)

Quad Cities 6, Kane County 1
LP: Kellen Moen (3-5)
HR: None

Quad Cities added tack-on runs late to pull away from Kane County. Kellen Moen allowed three earned runs in 6.0 innings to absorb the loss. Shortstop Jack Lopez collected two of the six Kane County hits, including a double. Alex Llanos drove in the lone run in the second.

Idaho Falls Chukars (9-10)

Grand Junction 2, Idaho Falls 1
LP: Alec Mills (0-2)
HR: Ysmelin Alcantara (2)

Right fielder Ysmelin Alcantara's fifth-inning solo shot held up until the eighth when Grand Junction was able to push across two for the win. The rally ruined a superb outing from Andrew Ferguson, who lowered his ERA to 1.14 after allowing four hits in 7.0 shutout frames, walking one and striking out five.

Burlington Royals (11-7)

Burlington 5, Bristol 2

SV: Lincoln Rassi (1)HR: Fred Ford (3)

Burlington was one out from a combined no hitter before a two-run homer ruined not only that but the shutout. 2012 third-rounder Colin Rodgers struck out three in 6.0 hitless frames while Lincoln Rassi finished up. 2012 draftee Fred Ford's three-run homer in the second proved to be enough.

Surprise Royals (5-7)

The Surprise Royals enjoyed an off day on Friday. They will be back at it tonight as they host the Arizona Brewers at 7:00 p.m. local time.
