Royals pick Moon from backyard in Round 6

The Royals stayed in-state for their sixth-round pick of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, taking outfielder Logan Moon of Missouri Southern State University.

Kansas City used the 183rd overall pick on the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Moon, who is a Blue Springs, Mo., native.

In his senior season with the Lions, a Division II school, Moon batted .386, with one home run, seven triples and nine doubles. He also led the team in walks (26) and stolen bases (17). Moon transferred to Missouri Southern after three years at Central Arkansas.

Moon, who bats and throws right-handed, was the first outfielder taken by the Royals in 2014.

"He came to our pre-Draft workout that we had this past Saturday and he was one of the most tooled-out players we had," Royals director of scouting Lonnie Goldberg said. "We knew we were going to select him after that workout."
