Royals reinstate RHP Kris Medlen from 60-day D.L.; option RHP Yohan Pino

KANSAS CITY, MO (July 20, 2015) - The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have returned right-handed pitcher Kris Medlen from his rehab assignment and reinstated him from the 60-day disabled list. He will be in uniform (#39) for tonight's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at 7:10. In a corresponding roster move, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Yohan Pino to Triple-A Omaha.

Medlen, 29, signed a two-year free agent contract with the Royals on December 18 after pitching the last six seasons for the Atlanta Braves. He missed the entire 2014 season, recovering from his second "Tommy John" surgery. The veteran righty went 1-1 with a 3.56 ERA (12 ER in 30.1 IP) with five walks and 20 strikeouts in six rehab assignments with Omaha and Northwest Arkansas (AA) this year.

With Medlen added to the Major League roster, the Royals now have 40 players on their 40-man roster.
