Fuentes, Wang keep pushing to make Royals

March 26th, 2016

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Right-hander Chien-Ming Wang threw three scoreless innings as he continued his comeback bid in attempt to make the Royals' roster in Saturday's 5-2 win over the A's at Surprise Stadium.
Wang gave up four singles, walked none and struck out none. He threw 38 pitches, 27 for strikes, and his fastball sat in the 92-93 mph range while touching 95.
"I feel I'm good," Wang said when asked if he's done enough to make the Opening Day roster. "But you have to make the decision in the manager's [office]."

Right-hander Chris Bassitt, the A's projected No. 4 starter, went five innings and endured a rough start.
Bassitt issued bases-loaded walks in the first inning to Eric Hosmer and Alex Gordon. Bassitt gave up seven hits and five runs overall, while throwing 100 pitches, 57 for strikes.
Doolittle perfect in his return against Royals
Red-hot Royals outfielder Reymond Fuentes delivered a two-run single in the first. Fuentes appears a lock to make the 25-man roster, and may even be in line to start the home opener on April 3.

Left-hander Danny Duffy also threw two scoreless innings for the Royals.
"I feel like I lost a good four or five fastballs a little higher," Duffy said. "I corrected it with a better slide step. I got more downhill and I got it going.
"Ever since San Antonio, I've been pretty pleased with the way I've been pitching. The results aren't always there as far as the line goes, but I'm pretty pleased."
Mark Canha got the A's on the board with an RBI triple off Royals reliever David Huff in the ninth. Canha later scored on Jake Smolinski's sacrifice fly.

Up next for A's: Right-hander Kendall Graveman is scheduled to start against the Royals on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. PT, with right-hander Ryan Dull and lefty Marc Rzepczynski slated for relief duties at Hohokam Stadium. Listen to the live action on Gameday Audio
Up next for Royals: Right-hander Chris Young, the Royals' No. 4 starter, gets the nod in Sunday's rematch against the A's at 3:05 p.m. CT. Young will be followed by Wade Davis, Kelvin Herrera and Joakim Soria in Mesa, Ariz. Listen to the live action on Gameday Audio.
