The Kansas City Royals will again help area families in need this holiday season by participating in two community events in the Kansas City area. 
Tomorrow, the Royals will partner with City Union Mission to serve a Thanksgiving meal for the 11th-straight year. Royals pitcher Ian Kennedy and his wife, Allison, will join a group of Royals associates to serve food at the mission's Men's Center, located at 1108 E. 10th St., in Kansas City, Mo., starting at 12:30 p.m. Another group of associates will join Sluggerrr to volunteer at the Family Center, located nearby at 1310 Wabash, beginning at noon. 
"Each year, we look forward to having the Royals with us at the Mission, not only for the meal they are providing, but also because it means so much to our guests," said City Union Mission executive director Dan Doty.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., outfielder Alex Gordon and his family will host the Mission Farms Holiday Open House at Indian Creek Pkwy. and Mission Rd. in Leawood, Kan., as they collect donations for SAFEHOME, a local domestic violence shelter. People who make a cash or check donation or donate an item from the SAFEHOME wish list can get an autograph from Gordon from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., limited to one item per person. Suggested wish list items include gift cards, paper towel rolls, toilet paper, new twin sheets and blankets, new bath towels and washcloths, facial tissues and diapers.
