Royals, White Sox remember heroes on 9/11

Special to MLB.com

KANSAS CITY -- The White Sox and Royals moved up their batting practice schedules on Monday for an extremely important reason. On the 16th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States, the date was marked at Kauffman Stadium by pregame ceremonies that included a moment of silence and the "We Shall Not Forget" silhouetted batter ribbon.

All on-field personnel -- including players, coaches and umpires -- wore caps with a side patch of an American flag, and proceeds from the sales of those caps will be donated to the 9/11 Memorial and Museum, the Pentagon Memorial and the Flight 93 Memorial.

Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer, whose father was a fireman and a first responder (not on 9/11) said it's always special to honor the victims of that day, and to thank all of the first responders.

"We just want to remember and thank everyone who helped out on that day, and to remember all of those who were lost," Hosmer said.
