Royals will play exhibition in Omaha in 2018

KC, top affiliate will each celebrate their 50th season

August 10th, 2017

The Royals will head to Omaha, Neb., to play their top affiliate next spring.
Kansas City announced Thursday it will play an exhibition game at Werner Park -- home to the Storm Chasers -- on March 26. It's the first time the teams have played against each other since 2000, when the Omaha club was known as the Golden Spikes.
Omaha's partnership with the Royals dates back 49 years, making it the third longest among current Minor League affiliations. The Storm Chasers have played at Werner Park since it opened in 2011.
"Since the franchise's inception in 1969, the Royals and Omaha have had a long and storied relationship," Royals senior vice president of business operations Kevin Uhlich said in a statement. "With our organizations celebrating their 50th seasons together, we thought it was a perfect time to play the game."
