Parra playing through elbow swelling

SAN DIEGO -- D-backs outfielder Gerardo Parra refused to come out of the game last Wednesday when he was smoked in the right elbow by a Rex Brothers' pitch.

The elbow immediately began swelling and was still that way prior to Saturday's game.

Yet Parra played Friday and was in the starting lineup again Saturday after manager Kirk Gibson asked him earlier in the day if he wanted to play.

"I tell him, 'Don't ask me if I want to play,'" Parra said with a smile. "Cause I'm always going to tell him I'm playing. I love to play. It's what I do."

Parra has played in 31 of the team's games entering Saturday.
