Righty Hancock gets win in debut with Triple-A El Paso

Right-hander Justin Hancock allowed one run on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings on Saturday night in his first start with Triple-A El Paso to lead the Chihuahuas to a 7-1 win at Nashville.

Hancock was promoted from Double-A San Antonio, where he was 7-6 with a 3.59 earned run average in 22 starts, earlier on Saturday. The 6-foot-4 Hancock, a ninth-round pick in the 2011 Draft, issued three walks and struck out three while winning his Pacific Coast League debut.

Left-hander Chris Rearick (5.23 ERA) followed Hancock and allowed a hit over 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Right-hander Jerry Sullivan (3.67 ERA) allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth.

Center fielder Travis Jankowski (.414) was 2-for-3 with two walks, two steals, an RBI and two runs scored for El Paso, which won a third straight game to improve to 63-57 and pull to within 2 1/2 games of PCL Pacific Southern division leader Las Vegas.

Second baseman Hector Gomez (.375) had two doubles in four at-bats with an RBI and two runs scored. Left fielder Alex Dickerson (.307) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Catcher Rocky Gale (.302) was 1-for-5 with two RBIs.

Right fielder Hunter Renfroe's (.262) third hit in six at-bats was a three-run double in the 11th. Infielder Casey McElroy (.259) was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and tied the game with a three-run homer in the ninth. Infielder Benji Gonzalez (.216) was 2-for-4 with a home run, two walks and two runs scored. Third baseman Gabriel Quintana (.237) was 3-for-4 with his 11th homer, while second baseman Felipe Bravo (.247) was 2-for-4 with his second homer. Center fielder Auston Bousfield (.278) was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Southpaw Chris Wieck (1-5, 6.18 ERA) started and allowed nine runs on nine hits and three walks with eight strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. Righty Bryan Verbitsky (2.78 ERA) allowed a hit in 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Lefty Kyle Bartsch (4.37 ERA) allowed three hits and fanned one in two scoreless innings.

Fort Wayne scored its seventh straight win and its 12th straight at home to improve to 14-2 over the last 16 games. Righty Chris Huffman (7-6, 3.18 ERA) started and allowed one run on eight hits and a walk, while recording six strikeouts, over six innings. Righty Aaron Cressley (5.56 ERA) allowed two hits and struck out one in a scoreless inning. Righty Colby Blueberg (0.72 ERA) allowed a hit and fanned one in two scoreless innings for his 16th save. First baseman Trae Santos (.255) was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer (his 10th) and a walk, while second baseman Josh VanMeter (.250) was 2-for-4.

Left-hander Will Headean (3.27 ERA) struck out five in three perfect innings, while righty Blake Rogers (1-1, 2.89 ERA) allowed a hit and racked up five strikeouts in three scoreless innings. Righty Eliot Ashbeck (3.97 ERA) gave up two hits and recorded a strikeout in a scoreless 15th. Second baseman Tyler Moore (.216) was 2-for-7 with a triple, a steal, an RBI and a run scored.
