Maybin out minimum of six weeks with PCL damage

SAN DIEGO -- Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin will miss a minimum of six weeks after suffering damage to the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, general manager Josh Byrnes confirmed on Tuesday.

Maybin injured his knee after landing on it while attempting a diving catch of a fly ball that Rockies third baseman Troy Tulowitzki hit in the eighth inning Sunday at Coors Field.

"I've taken a lot of bumps, lot of bruises, lot of big hits over my career playing outfield. ... I just thought it was one of those things that I'd be able to shake off. I was actually ready to go today if it was a possibility," said Maybin. "But, unfortunately, the MRI results we got back said I tore my PCL, so it's something I got to deal with."

Maybin was 5-for-18 with a home run, four RBIs and four stolen bases in four weekend games against the Rockies since returning from the disabled list on Thursday. Maybin previously missed 45 games with a right wrist impingement.

For the season, Maybin is hitting .157 with one home run and five RBIs in 51 at-bats.

Mark Kotsay was in the lineup Tuesday in right field and Will Venable was in center. On Monday, Alexi Amarista got the start in center field.

The Padres might not need to add an outfielder to their 25-man roster, as they have seven players who can handle the three outfield positions.
