SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today released the club's schedule for the 2017 regular season, which features interleague visits to San Diego by the Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins. The team will open the season on the road in Los Angeles for a four-game series against the Dodgers beginning on Opening Day, Monday, April 3. The club will host the San Francisco Giants for the home opener at Petco Park on Friday, April 7 at 3:40 p.m., as part of a three-game series to open the 2017 home schedule.
Interleague play in 2017 will bring American League Central opponents to San Diego, as the Kansas City Royals (June 9-11), Detroit Tigers (June 23-25) and Minnesota Twins (August 1-2) all will make the trip to America's Finest City. This will mark the third appearance at Petco Park for the Tigers and Twins, and the fourth for the Royals. The Padres will split a four-game home-and-home series against the Texas Rangers (May 8-11), the third visit to Petco for the Rangers. For interleague road contests, the Padres will visit Minnesota's Target Field for the third time in franchise history. The club will also make trips to Chicago to take on the White Sox (May 12-14) and Cleveland (July 4-6), both locations they last visited during the 2014 season.
Home weekends for the Padres in 2017 are highlighted by three series against the Los Angeles Dodgers and two each against the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies. The Marlins, Royals, Tigers, Pirates and Nationals also pay weekend visits to Petco Park. The Padres will host the St. Louis Cardinals at Petco Park on Labor Day (September 4).
The Padres will wrap up the 2017 home regular season in September with a six-game homestand featuring the Arizona Diamondbacks (September 18-20) and Colorado Rockies (September 21-24). The club will go on the road for the final six games of the season in Los Angeles (September 25-27) and San Francisco (September 29-October 1). San Diego will play 25 of the final 31 regular season games against National League West rivals.
Start times for 2017 home games will mostly remain the same. The majority of weekday games will begin at 7:10 p.m., with the exception of a handful of 12:40 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. getaway day starts. Friday home games will return to a 7:10 p.m. start time in 2017. The majority of Saturday games will begin at 5:40 p.m., though some will start at 7:10 p.m. due to Major League Baseball broadcasting restrictions.
