Santiago Casilla avoids visa delay, makes it to camp

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Right-hander Santiago Casilla escaped his visa-related snafu and reported to camp Friday. Intent on making up for lost time, Casilla is expected to throw live batting practice Saturday, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

Casilla absorbed the predictable teasing from teammates for arriving late, particularly since his younger brother, Minor League right-hander Jose Casilla, reported to camp on time.

Bochy had a little fun with Jose Casilla, who pitched last year at Class A Advanced San Jose while the older Casilla remained the Giants' top right-handed setup reliever. Bochy said he told Jose Casilla, "If your brother doesn't show up, you're on the team."
