Romo takes Lincecum's locker as tribute

April 1st, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants right-hander Sergio Romo was moved by Tim Lincecum's presence. So Romo has moved in Lincecum's absence, occupying the two-time Cy Young Award winner's vacated dressing stall in the Giants' clubhouse.
Romo had occupied the same space in a far corner of the clubhouse since joining the Giants in 2008. But he felt compelled to ask for Lincecum's locker as a tribute to the charismatic four-time All-Star.
"To make a splash the way he did -- there's only one Tim Lincecum," Romo said.
Romo said he will welcome the constant reminder of Lincecum: "It's kind of fun to think of him every day. It's a fun way to remember a friend."
Lincecum remains available in free agency, as yet unsigned. Having recovered from hip surgery, Lincecum's said to be preparing to throw for interested teams, though the anticipated occurrence of that showcase has been delayed.
Should Lincecum re-sign with the Giants and return to the Majors, Romo said he'll gladly relinquish the territory.
"I want to hold the locker for him," Romo said.
